It’s not fun to have to board a plane from the same fleet as one who crashed the day before. There are feelings of nerves and wonder, but you have to do it because you cannot miss that business meeting or the birth of your first grandchild. It can be agreed upon by everyone that getting on a Germanwings flight the day after 4U 9525 crashed into the Alps could not have been fun. Here’s how one pilot single handedly turned that feeling around…
Frank Woiton, the pilot on a Hamburg to Cologne flight, personally welcomed each and every passenger onto the plane, assuring them that he would get them safely to their destination. He then went on to talk to the passengers about how he has a wife and children and that his crew also have families.
The pilot also spoke about flying with Andreas Lubitz and how he seemed a good, happy pilot.
After a few moments of silence the passengers broke into applause.
One lady on the flight, Britta Englisch, praised Woiton for doing this via a Facebook post. And, yes, the post has since gone viral with some 20 000 shares and over 300 000 likes.
She has said that she did not intend for the post to go viral.
It was just one post amongst thousand others and it was meant to say thank you to the pilot for not hiding in the cockpit but letting us be part of his feelings.
