Anyone who has played monopoly has probably launched a board or two of their own. I tended to launch mine against the wall when I had just landed on someone’s hotel and couldn’t afford to pay the price. I’m guessing there are many who can relate.
Well Hasbro, the official makers of one of the world’s favourite board games, have just launched their World Edition Board and us Slaapstaders can breathe a sigh of relief. Yes, Cape Town is one of the 20 world cities that will grace the board with its presence.
The cities were decided by a massive online vote which saw almost four million people from 182 countries having their say. Along with 19 more popular destinations there was one wild card entry, Dutch village Giethoorn, which has a population of less than 3,000.
If you’re any good at deciphering headlines you will probably have figured out that Jozi was not so fortunate, although if they had cracked it I imagine the cities placed either side on the board might have felt a little hard done by.
