You’ve somehow ridden out the worst of the Sunday blues and then you hear it – the weekend death knell, otherwise known as the intro music to Carte Blanche. Thanks Derek Watts and team, let’s go in for Sunday losers round two.
Despite the fact that the show has come to signify the end of the weekend for many it really is an institution, which is why when Devi Sankaree Govender reported that she had been mugged whilst filming a story people took notice. If you’re thinking this sounds familiar you may recall this SABC presenter who was mugged live on camera.
Govender was in Bloemfontein and was robbed Wednesday morning with News24 carrying this:
The Carte Blanche team was filming an insert outside Bophelo House, the provincial head office of the department of health, at the time.
She walked a few metres from the team and felt a man’s hand around her neck. She said she turned around and started to scream, but then kept quiet as he tightened his grip around her neck.
He quickly ripped off the necklace and walked off as if nothing had happened.
The necklace was a gift from her husband given to her the day her son was born, and had been around her neck every day for the past 13 years.
Here’s hoping they send Derek after the mugger and he tracks him down using his bloodhound-like instincts.
