Isn’t it lovely that Charles and Camilla have time for a quick trip down memory lane once in a while? The couple is currently visiting Washington, DC, (Charles spoke last night at the Global Ocean Commission and the International Sustainability Unit about the amount of plastic waste in the world’s oceans) but it wasn’t all work and no play.
They have so far visited the National Mall, the National Archives, the Lincoln Memorial, George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate in Virginia and the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial. Whilst Charles has been talking about saving the world, Camilla popped in to the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington. That’s not all they have done, but it’s a good start.
Charles got to laugh at a “patent application submitted in 1931 by his uncle, Lord Louis Mountbatten, for a new kind of polo stick”. One of the best parts?
He also laughed when shown a telegram from the U.S. embassy in London to the Secretary of State, sent in 1957 seeking instructions to ensure that a toy car that had been given to Charles, then 8 years old, would be working properly when he returned home to play with it.
Oh, bless those royals.
Imagine how little they must actually have on their plates to only worry about children’s toys…
Whilst on a tour of a working farm on the Virginia estate, Charles even managed to say something slightly humorous when he patted the horn of an ox named Jed.
You’ve got to watch these.
Charles obviously has all his words saved for saving the oceans (which I am all in favour of).
