I tend to find most dolls freaky, ‘haunted’ or otherwise. Their beady little eyes following you around the room, the evil cackle emanating from the child playing so gleefully with their prized possession, it’s fair to say the movie Chucky had something of a lasting effect on my psyche when it comes to such matters.
Now the more ‘evil spirits’ inclined amongst us can hop onto sites like eBay and nab their own haunted doll. Why would you want to do such a thing? NPR reports:
“Some people want to connect solely with the spirit,” [journalist Jak Hutchcraft] explains. “Some people buy them just for the doll because they’re doll collectors and the spirited aspect of it is just a secondary thing…”
Hutchcraft spent some time investigating the subject and found dolls selling for as much as $1 500 thanks to their other-worldly nature. Fear not though, haunted doll expert Jayne Harris has soothing words for those worried about an evil spirit using the doll as a medium of hostile body takeover. This from Vice:
Jayne told me several times that she no longer dabbles in ouija boards, citing the fact they’re used to communicate with demonic energies, as opposed to the human energies she deals with. She also seemed certain that a spirit from a doll could never possess a human.
Sheesh, I’m glad that’s cleared up, although that doll in the green above does look it might have a touch of Miley Cyrus stewing inside her.
Now back to reading about slightly more plausible things like Bigfoot or Jacob Zuma paying back the money.
