Fans of horror movies the world over buckle up your seatbelts, there’s a new dog in town and it promises to pack quite a bark.
‘It Follows’, which premièred at Cannes last year, has critics gushing including those over at Rolling Stone:
The story involves a 19-year-old girl (played by Maika Monroe) who loses her virginity to a handsome high school jock, only to discover that said deflowering makes her part of a chain letter-like curse where she’s pursued by some nebulous, shape-shifting thing until she “passes it on”…
It Follows is the most singularly creepy lo-fi American horror movie to slink into theaters (sic) in years.
Director David Robert Mitchell said the story is loosely based on a recurring nightmare he has had for the past 30 years, so I imagine making the movie was no walk in the park. As for Maika’s character having caught something nasty from sex – I’m sure that is something many of you can relate to.
