Cue funny puns on lights going out on people and loads being shed. Yes, four board members of notorious power-bunglers Eskom have been suspended which includes CEO Tshediso Matona. Seems like the public’s baying for blood has finally been answered.
Eskom Chairman Zola Tsotsi (I can hear the cheekier amongst you readers saying ‘apt’) announced there is an independent investigation underway at the company and the CEO (pictured below) was suspended along with the board’s finance director, capital executive, commercial and technology executive and one non-acting board member.
Just what are they investigating then and why the suspensions? This from eNCA:
The issues to be investigated during the audit include, among others, delays in launching a new plant and cash flow challenges…
Tsotsi said the four members had been suspended to ensure the audit would be transparent, and that there would not be a conflict of interest.
“There is nothing sinister going on,” he said.
He then added that there was no problem behind the scenes and there is as yet no evidence or suspicion of wrongdoing. We could point to the rolling blackouts across the country but we’ll take the higher ground for a change.
