Troubled grunge rocker Kurt Cobain ensured his musical immortality when he took his own life on or around April 5th 1994. He was, of course, 27 at the time which put him alongside other rock legends like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison as members of the famed ’27 Club’.
Whilst other documentaries have attempted to paint the full picture of the Nirvana frontman’s rise to fame they have never received the stamp of approval from Cobain’s family members or Courtney Love and daughter Frances Bean.
Enter Montage of Heck, the HBO documentary that had people at Sundance Film Festival going ape. This from Time:
…interviews with family members and friends are mixed with animation and never-before-seen family photos, home movies and artwork of the Smells Like Teen Spirit singer…
The film’s soundtrack will also feature an unreleased 12-minute acoustic song by Cobain.
Nirvana acolytes will have to wait until May 4th before the documentary airs on HBO, although in the mean time you can feast your eyes on the trailer up top.
