So yesterday saw the first public briefing from Apple CEO Tim Cook regarding the Apple Watch. Whilst snippets of information had entered the public domain over the past few months yesterday’s Apple event, hosted in San Francisco, detailed exactly what users can expect and answered that other vital question – how much?
Well let’s get pricing out of the way here first, with Time magazine reporting:
The entry-level Watch Sport will cost $349 and $399…The mid-tier Watch collection will range from $549 to $1099. The top-of-the-line Watch Edition will retail for $10,000 and up.
Find something that fits into your budget range? Peeps in the US can pre-order from April 10 with the watch going on sale to the general public on April 24.
Cook ran through the major features and a few stood out, including the ability to make and receive calls on the device. You can use the built-in speaker and microphone for quick chats, or alternatively transfer calls to your iPhone for more privacy.
Another feature that garnered much attention is ordering Uber on the Apple Watch. How does it all work? Over to Techcrunch:
When you open the Uber app on your Apple Watch, it goes straight to a screen showing how long it’ll be until a car can come get you…
Once you’ve given that big button a tap, the app confirms that it’s looking for a ride and shows where it thinks you want to be picked up, giving you a chance to cancel if your phone sent the wrong location data.
Once you’ve got the car confirmed, you can watch its arrival progress via a tiny map as well as double-check the driver’s face and car from a single screen.
We can of course hook you up with R150 off your first Uber ride so best you sign up HERE and say goodbye to arguing over who’s the Designated Dave for the night.
I must say some of these new features are pretty epic, but you know what my favourite is? The Apple Watch even tells the time. Who would have thought?
