How’s this for an original wedding idea?
Groom Ahmed Shehata thought a very well planned prank on his new wife, Shaimaa Deif, to be 100% necessary and planned for it to happen in the middle of their wedding. He arranged for relatives to dress up as ISIS militants and pretend to kidnap his wife. Nice Guy.
To the soundtrack of the notorious Isis anthem, masked men entered the wedding… and strong-armed her and Shehata into a cage reminiscent of the one in which a Jordanian pilot was burned alive last month.
Once the couple was in the cage, the anthem changed to dance music and her brother lifted his mask to assure her she was safe
Many Egyptians have reacted in anger to the prank, saying it is too soon to be tasteful (will it ever be?) – here’s a reminder that ISIS murdered 21 Egyptian Christians last month and another 30 soldiers were killed by an Isis-affiliate in the north Sinai desert.
Shehata said he wanted to “laugh in the face of adversity” instead of sitting in fear as many people are doing and by dressing up as ISIS militants they have all given ISIS this message:
Whatever happens because of this [massacre], you are not going to scare us. We will scare you, because our enjoyment, our happiness and our weddings will continue whatever you do.
Speaking to the transnational jihadi movement, Deif also “argued that the prank sent a strong message to Isis”.
The cage you’re scaring us with, we are dancing inside it.
It’s a good idea – you can’t constantly live in fear of something (even if it’s as big and violent as ISIS), but I’m not too sure I’d want this to happen to me at my wedding.
