It really is time someone had a serious word with police in the US about their wanton shooting of unarmed civilians. Yeah, it is actually getting really ridiculous the regularity with which these videos keep appearing and they seem to be showing the police in an increasingly unfavourable light.
This time it is six to seven LAPD officers who responded to a call about two homeless people involved in an altercation. After a struggle we can then hear multiple shots fired, with this from Gawker:
Still struggling to subdue the first man, it looks as though officers begin to taser him. One of the officers is then heard repeatedly shouting, “he’s going for my gun!” before five shots are fired.
Sure, maybe in the midst of being tasered by a handful of police officers the homeless man reached out for the policeman’s gun. Here’s a thought police, when there are a whole bunch of you handling an altercation between two people, why not send a cop or two in to handle the situation who is not armed? Then, if anything was to go seriously wrong, they could use their firearms if necessary and we wouldn’t see what happened here becoming a regular thing.
And five shots? What, was he still twitching from the tasering and the first one or two didn’t slow him down? No wonder people in the US have had enough, it’s difficult enough to watch from the other side of the globe.
