Believe it or not, in our day and age, people are still trying Gay Conversion Therapy out. Even more unbelievable is that the LGBT community has to fight for equal rights, because somewhere along the line someone made them lesser humans.
Anyway. What exactly is “Gay Conversion Therapy”? It is “the practice of ‘curing’ gay people by trying to turn them straight through counselling and lifestyle restrictions”.
There is some good news, though:
Today, however, homosexuality has been removed from the American Psychiatric Association’s list of mental disorders, and conversion therapy is considered ineffective, harmful, and potentially deadly.
The guys at VICE managed to infiltrate gain access to one of these organisations in the US. The Journey into Manhood program costs $600 for a weekend retreat.
[Men] participate in exercises and activities the staff members claim will help them battle their same-sex orientation.
They get to stand in group circles and yell out all their insecurities. The scary thing is these men actually think there is something wrong with them.
Seriously, watch the video. It’s mind-blowing. On interviewing Dr. Joseph Nicolosi (the founder of reparative therapy) at his LA psychological clinic, VICE heard this:
Everyone is heterosexual. The idea that some people are naturally homosexual or naturally gay is just a social construct.
Dr Nicolosi hopes to “resolve the issue and put them back on the path toward their natural heterosexuality”.
Wouldn’t it be nice to send him a comp VIP ticket to MCQP or make him live in San Francisco for a month? Maybe he would wake up.
