People of Cape Town – if this doesn’t make you want to head up Signal Hill this evening and take in another ripper of a sunset I don’t know what will. Yes, it’s more footage of the famed ‘green flash sunset’.
People of Jozi, I’m not sure if the green flash will be visible through all the smog but you’re welcome to chance your arm anyway, just make sure you’re home before it gets too dark.
So HERE is videographer Eric Sterman’s footage, shot in Hawaii. If you play close attention you may see some water disturbance as the sun sinks. Just a few whales making their way past, no biggy.
Sure the green flash is brief but I’m sure in real time it must have been quite a sight. What causes this unusual occurrence? Who better than NASA to explain, courtesy of Huffington Post:
Like a weak prism, the Earth’s atmosphere breaks white sunlight into colors, bending red colors slightly and green and blue colors through increasingly larger angles. When the sky is clear, a green flash just above the sun’s edge can sometimes be seen for a second or so, when the sun is close to a distant horizon.

See you guys on top of Signal Hill then…let’s just hope the whales decide to play ball. You got them up in Jozi?
