Now it’s not exactly news when a South African family sells their house and leaves the country. The question that follows is usually Canada, UK, New Zealand or Australia then mate?
When a Port Elizabeth family sells their house and moves to Iraq to join forces with ISIS our interest tends to pique somewhat. Yep, ISIS has cells in about 60 countries around the world so it was inevitable that at some point we would lose a few foolhardy souls.
This is not the first such case either as it was reported earlier this week that a Johannesburg man became the first South African to travel to Syria and join the Islamic State militants. This from News24:
[The man] also called for other South Africans to join him, saying “the life in the Islamic State is an amazing life”.
He is believed to have flown to Turkey before travelling overland to Syria. The Port Elizabeth family is believed to have used the same route.
It is estimated that up to half of the ISIS fighters in Iraq and Syria are from abroad, with the group even using social media to target youths in efforts to swell their ranks.
And here you were thinking the worst thing out there on the internet was pornography. Cue parents checking their children’s browser history and breathing a sigh of relief at seeing a dirty site or three.
