There are some very intelligent people out there. Some, like Stephen Hawking, use their superior intellect for the greater good of mankind. Others, like cybercriminal Evgeniy Bogachev, find a more sinister outlet for their talents and now a lucrative international manhunt is under way.
Yes, you could land yourself a cool $3 million for information that leads to the arrest of Bogachev, a Russian hacker believed to have stolen more than $100 million. The BBC reports:
Mr Bogachev, also known as “lucky12345” and “slavik”, is accused of running the GameOver Zeus attack network, thought to have infected more than one million computers…
[He] was charged last year on counts including conspiracy, wire, bank and computer fraud, and money laundering, after the FBI said it broke up the network.
The threat of cybercrime is so serious that perennial adversaries Russia and the USA are considering working together to crack down on the scourge.
Good thing the man knows his way around a hard drive because he isn’t going to win a beauty contest any time soon. The ‘wanted’ poster doesn’t quite have the cool factor of those old western ‘dead or alive’ ones, but I imagine somewhere out there Bogachev is wearing a smirk.
