Actors and actresses at the Oscars always say they are unprepared when their name gets called and they clamber on stage to accept the glory, yet somehow they piece together an eloquent and heartfelt tribute. Good work and so ‘off the cuff’ you guys.
My favourite part, though, remains when the camera shows the other nominees pretending to play it cool and look happy for the winner. Yeah, they are delighted you won and not them, naturally.
Cue Michael Keaton, nominated in the Best Actor category for his role in Birdman, who was so sure he would win he was actually holding his Oscar speech in his hand. Alas, the award went to The Theory of Everything actor Eddie Redmayne.
I believe the word the kids of today are using is ‘awkwies’.
