Good news…this kind of nonsense goes on around the world.
Bad news…I didn’t see a single punch thrown and, worse yet, no one used a hard hat as a weapon.
So what caused this fracas in Turkey? This from Mashable:
…a brawl broke out in parliament in the early hours of Wednesday when opposition politicians tried to delay debating a controversial new security bill.
The piece of legislation has drawn criticism for expanding President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ability to limit freedom of expression and squash dissent.
Two men had to be hospitalized and three others were injured after politicians threw chairs during the scuffles, and at least one person was hit with a gavel.
Oh good, there it is. Here I was thinking it was just a whole bunch of ‘come at me, bro’ with no substance.
So what is this bill that has raised the ire of opposition politicians then? Were it to be passed police would have the right to detain people for 48 hours without prosecutor authority, use firearms against aggressive protesters and governors (rather than prosecutors and judges) would have the right to order arrests. In short, hello police state.
Which one would you prefer, #paybackthemoney and #givebackthesignal or Turkey’s attempt to give police extended powers?
