There’s an old joke which goes a little something like this: How do you know when a politician is lying? His lips are moving.
Now I would never accuse our president of such a thing, but sometimes he doesn’t seem to put much thought into what he says. Take for example his latest verbal offering, this in response to journalists questioning about whether he was nervous for his SONA address this Thursday. City Press quotes:
I have never been nervous in my life, never.
Now if you ask me Zuma should be sweating balls considering that both Julius Malema and the people of South Africa are nipping at his heels ahead of Thursday’s speech. Whether it’s #paybackthemoney or demanding his resignation, the presidency has come under fire in the build-up to SONA.
During the press lunch where he made his ‘no nerves’ comments, JZ was also asked about his plans regarding Nkandla. His stuck record response, according to City Press:
Zuma said Mbete should never have allowed the question in the National Assembly when the EFF asked it (in August last year).
He said there was a parliamentary committee dealing with the matter.
He also said he had nothing to do with the upgrades at his Nkandla home, which meant he owed no money.
Bring on Thursday, I want to see some squirming. Maybe one of the broadcasters can fit Zuma with a heart-rate monitor and we can see first-hand history in the making.
