A memorial service will be held in Pretoria today for the van Breda family, but it is not yet clear if the surviving son, Henri, will be attending.
Henri is currently staying with an uncle in Stellenbosch and receiving counselling, and, let’s face it, getting on a flight to another city right now is probably the most terrifying thing for the kid.
The family is originally from Pretoria – they moved to Perth and then Brisbane, before returning to South Africa a year ago, but most of their friends and family are up in Pretoria.
Henri suffered a bruise to his head and scratches from the attack. He has apparently spoken to detectives/SAPS, saying that he “was attacked last and was knocked unconscious, next to his mother and sister” and that it was a burglar. De Zalze still maintains there was no security breach.
