The wind does have its uses. I think we can all admit we are in need of a little turbine electricity at the moment. I’ve also yet to meet a man who didn’t wish for the odd gust of air on a day when our streets are full of beautiful women in summer skirts. Blame Marilyn Monroe for that one.
The wind does also mean something else pretty awesome for us Capetonians…the Red Bull King of the Air 2015. Should the movement of air from high pressure to low pressure decide to play ball, we will see the big guns battle it out at Big Bay, with the one day event due to happen any day until February 14.
So what do we need to watch these high-flying daredevils? You can read out exactly what weather conditions are required HERE to make sure you don’t miss out on the action.
24 participants will go up against each other in the unique ‘flag-out’ competition format. Amongst those vying for the title are 2013’s champ Jesse Richman (USA) and defending champ Kevin Langeree (NED) as well as 5-time world champion Aaron Hadlow (GBR). Two wildcard entrants in the form of Alexandre Neto (BRA) and Antonin Rangin (FRA) also join the throng.
If you’re not able to make it down to Big Bay make sure you watch it live on the Red Bull King of the Air website or catch the semi-finals & finals on Red Bull TV, which s available on connected TVs, gaming consoles, mobile devices and more.
Here’s hoping the weather gods come to the party and we get to see some extreme athletes killing it. Excitement is a shore thing.
