There are few things in this world more enjoyable than a splash in the ocean followed by a few cold ones. Yes, people of Durban, our water is far colder than yours but our women are more beautiful and it doesn’t feel like we live in a sauna.
Anyone who has visited the Atlantic Seaboard side of Cape Town will remember the iconic La Med, where one could wander off the beach and take in Goldfish every Sunday whilst the sun went down. It seems this famed strip of land (now renamed) will no longer play host to sandy-footed revellers as it is set to be sold off as part of a shopping, parking and residential complex.
Just how much? A cool R100 million, which is a whole bunch of cocktails my friend. All hope is not lost, however. This from fin24:
…it will consist of a three-level underground parking garage with 750 bays, about 2 750m square of commercial space including an anchor retail tenant, a number of boutique line shops, and the possible relocation of the famous beachfront La Med restaurant.
There is much red tape still to be sorted so nothing is set in stone, but here’s hoping if they do bust out the bulldozers they don’t forget about keeping us hydrated.
La Med reincarnated? Fans of watching good-looking people in beach attire rejoice.
