When you are known as the “big daddy” of the South African electronic dance party industry, you are going to mix with the main dogs. David Forbes, the founder of the famous H20 parties and the man responsible for the Engen shooting, was well-known to popular DJ Sasha Martinengo.
Now Martinengo has registered his shock at the shooting last Saturday, telling news24 of his long association with Forbes:
I’ve done many functions for Dave Forbes, from the days of Sutra, H2O and Nicci Beach, and I’m just completely shocked at what’s gone on…
Dave has always been a very, very decent man. I don’t find him a thug or aggressive at all. I’ve never seen Dave with a gun. He was always dressed in linen pants and flip-flops. Even when I went into his back office to get paid, he didn’t have a gun.
Although unconfirmed various unidentified sources have claimed that Forbes was part of an operation to bust fraudulent ticket sales. This from news24 again:
The insiders claim that the meeting with Joseph [the deceased] – who was himself facing a murder charge – was allegedly a sting operation to crack the scalping syndicate.
Forbes was granted bail after an appeal on Friday. You can read about that HERE.
