It’s become something of a well-trodden path these days. Freaked out by crime, and a few of the other problems we suffer this side of the world, a family says its goodbyes and heads down under. Here they gather in large numbers and bitch and moan about how bad life was and how good it is now.
Before you get your knickers in a twist, I have seen it first-hand. I’m not saying ALL expats are bitter, but enough are to make it very, very annoying.
Well, it seems the grass may not always be greener on the other side. Caryn (surname withheld) and her family emigrated to northern Sydney from our shores in search of a better life for her kids, but alas it hasn’t gone to plan. This from the Daily Telegraph:
“We thought the kids would have more freedom here and not be exposed to crime,” she said. “Our dreams have been shattered.
“I don’t want to live in fear. We need to warn people.”
Or perhaps Caryn may be over-reacting somewhat, as Northern Beaches Police Inspector Jo Comber said the crimes were the work of juveniles.
We do have a small number of youths committing petty crime in Dee Why and Frenchs Forest…
It’s opportunistic and we’re endeavouring to prevent those crimes.
It sounds like Caryn is looking for some kind of utopia that doesn’t exist… maybe she should consider moving to Mars, we hear the crime rate is pretty low there.
