The British retail chain Argos is feeling the heat after pricing their dolls differently according to their race.
The white doll, named ‘Maria’, retailed for £34,99 whilst her black and Asian counterparts (‘Naima’ and ‘Yang’) would only set you back £24,99.
The problem here, doll aficionados, is that all three are identical save for one detail…their race. Whilst the manufacturer, a French company called Corolle Calin, lists all the dolls at £23, Argos saw fit to price them differently. These pics below taken from Metro.
Argos have reacted quickly to the backlash, with Metro reporting:
Last night Argos blamed ‘a genuine pricing error’ and said it ‘urgently rectifying’ the problem.
‘[We] can confirm all three dolls will be priced at £24.99,’ a spokesman added.
A quick check showed that the pricing has been rectified and they are all retailing for the same price. Still, you would imagine that somewhere in the UK there is someone packing their belongings into a box and getting shown the door.
