We’re all angered by how our rhinos are getting mowed down so some cretin on the other side of the world can last an extra two minutes in the sack. Well, it’s even worse than we feared.
It turns out 2014 was a record-breaking year for all the wrong reasons. A whopping 1 215 rhinos were poached, which is a 21% increase on 2013. Over two-thirds of those were shot inside of the Kruger National Park borders. Our wildlife is well and truly under attack.
Not shocked by these stats? Maybe this picture will get your blood boiling. Be warned, it isn’t for the faint-hearted.
Yeah, that’s what these thugs are doing to our horned friends.
Now the Acting CEO of Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife David Mabunda has reached out for help, with TimesLive reporting the following:
This is no longer a conservation war, but it is a war of our sovereignty so we should look at it in terms of our national security…
The conservation agencies do not have the skills or resources to deal with this alone and that is why this responsibility should be handed over to the army…
Today rhinos are being targeted, tomorrow it will be lions and we don’t know what will be next. These poachers must be made to feel that SA is not their playground.
Hear hear David, it seems the only way to deal with the problem is to fight fire with fire. Lock and load fellas.
