Sometimes the scariest animals out there aren’t necessarily the biggest, and this shark found in Australia proves that point.
Skipper David Guillot caught a frilled shark whilst fishing off a trawler in Victoria, Australia, and this guy won’t be winning any underwater beauty contests. Mashable describes the shark as follows:
The creature, which lives in waters less than 1,200 metres deep, has the body of an eel and the tail of a shark, with 300 teeth in 25 rows. The frilled shark gets its name from six pairs of gill slits near its neck, and captures prey by bending its body and lunging forward in a snake-like manner.
This Stephen King-like creation is rather rare, with experienced fishermen saying they had never seen anything quite like it in all their time at sea. It was caught at a depth of more than a kilometre, which is hopefully where they will remain. They kinda remind me of Freddie Krueger with fins.
