There’s also the supporting roles, soundtracks, set design, costume… An endless list (well, 24 categories, but by the end of the evening it feels like you have been watching for half your lifetime) that will end well for some.
The movie industry is like the Rocky Mountains, the higher you get, the whiter it gets.
Of course, being humans, we need to address the fact that the list is as white as freshly fallen snow. Reverend Al Sharpton has criticized the lack of colour and has called for an “emergency meeting” next week with “the task force” (I don’t know what a task force is…). The movie Selma, which is about Martin Luther King Jr., did get a best movie nod, but was only added into the category at the last minute, and none of the actors have been included in any categories.
Among the most notable snubs was David Oyelowo, who was widely praised for his portrayal as the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in “Selma,” but was not nominated in the best actor category, and Ava DuVernay, who directed the same movie, but was not nominated for best director.
Yikes.
