No, SONA is not an electro-house music festival, it’s the State of the Nation address given by the reigning president every year. Although we would love to see Julius let loose at an outdoor party with a bag full of goodies and the wind under his wings.
Now the standard protocol for the address is one of respect and observing the expected decorum. In fact, in the twenty year history of SONA no one has ever asked a question. You see where we’re going with this. City Press reports:
“There are no rules in the rules dealing with questions to the president [at a state of the nation address],” explained Masibulele Xaso, secretary to the National Assembly.
He added that the matter was dealt with by convention.
If we know one thing about Juju it’s that he isn’t afraid to speak his mind and cause a little trouble. Click HERE for a trip down memory lane.
So when he wrote a letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly to request a special sitting where he might pepper JZ with some awkward questions, which has since been denied by Baleka Mbete, Malema added a spicy little addendum:
Please note that failure to accommodate our request will give us no other option but to insist that President Jacob Zuma answers these questions at the state of the nation address on 12 February.
The lines have been drawn in the sand. This super heavyweight bout resumes February 12, and it promises to get messy.
