We have all had that glowing sense of pride when we wake up in the morning with a throbbing headache, a missing set of keys and have somehow managed to hop the fence and fit through the dog flap on the back door.
You’ve only channelled your inner Macgyver, avoided the barbed wire atop the gate and slightly twisted your ankle on landing. The losers come next, but let’s not go down that road.
Now imagine the sense of pride you would feel if you free-climbed a kilometre-high sheer mountain face. Give these men a stiff Jack Daniels, on the rocks of course.
So technically it was only 914 metres, but here’s the route the two men took whilst climbing El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, California.
The gruelling climb took its toll on the men, who slept in tents suspended from the face during the two week summit. BBC reports:
During their climb up the notoriously difficult Dawn Wall route, both took rest days to wait for their skin to heal and used tape and even superglue to speed the process…
The pair suffered bruising falls, when their grip slipped, and they would bounce off the mountain face.
Only their safety ropes saved them from further harm.

If all this has put you in the mood for some adventure, but climbing a sheer cliff face seems like a stretch, why not get up close and personal with some Great White sharks in Kleinbaai. Groupon is running a special which picks up from Cape Town and will have you kakking your broeks and back in time for tea for under R1300. Eish.
