The National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World list has been released, and we can be proudly South African once again. We managed to grab three positions (out of only 24), and one of them is just down the road from the Mother City.
To be a part of this elite list of places to stay, the lodges have to be “in extraordinary places around the world with a demonstrated commitment to sustainability, authenticity and excellence”. They have to “demonstrate a commitment to conservation and green operations; actively support the protection of cultural heritage; and provide tangible benefits to local communities”. God, all hotels should be taking a leaf out of these criteria.
Anyway, we’re super proud that Grootbos Private Nature Reserve is up on that list (along with Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge and Tswalu Kalahari). You know how much we love the place. I’m not going to explain why. I’m just going to show you.
Yeah, you wanna go there now, don’t you? If you choose the season right, you’ll get to witness this natural beauty, and if that’s not enough (which it should be!) have a squizz at this. It’s a freaking drone flying around one of the top 24 most wonderful places to stay in the world.
You can thank us for your getaway weekend later.
