The citizens of Bucharest, Romania have had their slumber interrupted at around 3am by one cracker of a meteorite.
Video recordings show the capital city being illuminated by a brief burst of light as the flaming ball of rock shot through the sky.
OK, so technically it was a meteoroid and not a meteorite, before the meteorologists out there get uppity…
…because it is believed that no piece of it hit the surface of the planet, with the Romanian Space Agency (Rosa) claiming it burned up at an altitude of 31-43 miles above the ground.
We say you can keep your fancy flying rocks Romania. We will just wake up every morning to the glory that is Table Mountain. Fancy an early morning hike anyone?
