By now we are well aware of the controversy surrounding the Dalai Lama being denied a visa to enter South Africa. Who knows what havoc that rogue may have wreaked upon our shores.
We found it rather interesting then, when digging through today’s Business Day, that we found this nugget tucked away in the nether regions of the newspaper.
Now, let’s not name call. Luckily the woman in question, Leila Khaled, has done all our name-calling for us. Yep, she is a known, convicted and a self-confessed terrorist. You’d think this would be something that the South African public might like to know about, especially in light of what is going on in France of late. We’re not saying that she is an ACTIVE terrorist or that she is still getting up to high jinx, we’re simply stating that it would be nice if we were kept abreast of things.
Khaled is a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) who hijacked a plane in 1969, only released as part of a prisoner exchange with civilians taken hostage by the PFLP.
According to Business Day, It seems she is here to step up protests against Woolworths, who are stocking food from Israel on their shelves.
So there you have it. One must wonder why this story has attracted so little attention. I, for one, would like to be kept up to speed on when our borders plan on opening up to those convicted of terrorism. Purely from an informative perspective.
You can read an interesting interview she gave last year here.
