I’m not sure if you know this, but the Mount Nelson Hotel (or, the Nellie, as we like to call her) likes to reward South Africans for the hard work of living in such a beautiful country by offering specials that apply to SA residents, only. And they’re a flipping steal.
Nymphomania, for those of you who do not know, does not specifically refer to the insane and uncontrollable desire for sex. It’s quite gender-specific actually. In the late 19th century, Nymphomania was a mental-illness diagnosed to woman who had what would by todays standards just be a regular sexual appetite. So what would happen is […]

South Africa’s crime epidemic has inspired films like Tsotsi, Jerusalema, A Million Colours, How to Steal 2 Million, Stander, Hijack Stories and more recently, Four Corners. We’re living in a gangster’s paradise with a flourishing subculture of violence and criminality. While the SAPS and local crime watch initiatives are trying to combat this, crime is still a prominent issue in South Africa.
Hello ladies. Winter is coming, and you’re digging your coats out from the back of the cupboard. But you’ve noticed something – over the course of the summer you seem to have picked up a few extra garments, and now you’re in a bind with space. Double problem: you don’t want to give any of your stuff away to make room. So what do you do?
Tomorrow is a public holiday, which means that you may well be treating tonight as a Friday. Which is to say, you might not be treating it very well. For goodness-sake, the new phone that you forked out for barely has the protective film off the screen, and already you’re flirting with the idea of smashing it on the bar floor. Don’t be that friend that other friends can “only contact through Facebook for now.”
Here’s a pretty cool new schoolboy rugby highlights show, based of Facebook, but also available on Youtube for those who don’t book faces.
Colton Burpo is a special child. At the age of 4 his appendix burst and doctors told his father Todd, that his toddler would not survive. Did we mention that the Burpo family are devout Christians? What happens next is one of those things that would make Richard Dawkins pretty agitated and has the Bible […]

What if we told you we could solve one of the most vexing problems of urban life – the search for a parking spot? We’ve discovered a nifty app that takes the guesswork out of the search. It isn’t perfect yet, but it’s definitely worth a look.
Oh dear Mbalula, what have you said now? It looks like an apology by the ANC to yet ANOTHER African country will need to be made after this guy went and said something rather embarrassing. Again. On Tuesday, Fikile Mbalula who is our country’s Minister of Sport and Recreation, sat at a meeting with some […]
Do you know what the petrol price is in Cape Town? It’s R13.98 per litre. Do you know what the petrol price is in Jo’burg? R14.39. The consider this: we have no control over the oil price, which is set in dollars, and the Rand to dollar exchange rate stinks worse than a day-three Afrika Burn attendee. Quick heads up: petrol isn’t getting any cheaper, any time soon.
Microsoft is known to have made some of the best Windows phone operating systems and of course their office tools are still pretty badass. And now that Microsoft has completed their acquisition of Nokia, they have the potential to step in to the gaping gap in the market left in the universe of other purportedly […]
A luggage scale is more important than you might think. Especially if you spend more time sitting in the business lounge of an airport than on your living room couch. It can become rather tiresome to constantly guess the weight of your luggage on your frequent trips or having to pay more than you actually […]
Aeroplane travel. Most of us safely assume that because planes have been built by ENGINEERS and that pilots have spent a million hours completing flight school that we must be in good hands. Right? Actually what happens in the cabin of an aeroplane is not always as sanitary and efficient as you may think. There […]
Adhering to BEE legislation is a vital part of your responsibility as a business person in South Africa, but more than a handful of people shy away from starting their own enterprises because they imagine that the the paperwork involved, including obtaining a BEE certificate isn’t worth the major effort. Reality check: it’s dead easy. […]
The NBA‘s Clippers Team owner, Donald Sterling, no longer owns his own team. Shame. NBA commissioner Adam Silver made this call and banned poor old Donald from his own team because apparently Donald is racist and Adam is not. Let us explain: Sterling made some pretty outlandishly racist comments, which were then recorded and published […]
Do you see what’s happening with the weather today? Take a look. Take one damned good look. It’s gone to hell in a handbasket, and there are only a few decent days left. A dozen real stunners, if we’re lucky. You have to make those guys count – in that spirit we’ve put together this […]
There’s nothing quite like spotting news anchors ballsing up, live on air. Even better is when someone compiles all the latest bloopers for you. Yet another reason to love Youtube! Enjoy!
As we head towards Season 2 of the Oscar Pistorius trial (starts May 5), a blogger’s interpretation of the timeline presented by Oscar Pistorius is being passed around. Here it is..
Think about that for a second. TWO WEEKS. One thing I must say is they are very good at telling me on Twitter Direct Message that the issue has been ‘escalated’ and it ‘needs to be resolved,’
You won’t believe who just broke up. ‘Knox dealt fatal blow.’ SA elections are under way. Khanyi punished for Reeva comment. David Geffen wants Clippers. Google and co’s ‘Manchine’ race. iWatch in production. MH370 plane wreckage claim.
If you haven’t read it yet, now might be the time to do so. Jade Mitchell’s blog received some serious attention last week when she posted a scathing observation about Capetonians and their unwarranted sense of superiority towards themselves and their city. Titled “Go F***ck Yourself Cape Town” , the piece details an array of […]
Amal Alamuddin is undoubtedly unique in terms of the ‘type’ George Clooney has previously been known to date. Looking at Clooney’s history of models/actresses/waitresses, it safe to say that Amal is the cream of the crop. The couple first stepped out in the public eye last October – and now it is rumoured that the […]
Celebrity publicist Max Clifford has been found guilty of a multiple crimes against four women, some of whom were underage at the time of the attacks. of During his trial, the sex offender couldn’t resist the lure of the media. Maximising his creep powers, Clifford snuck up behind Sky News reporter, Tom Parmenter, and began mimicking his hand movements.
A local clothing and apparel company called Dranged (do you think they know they spelled that wrong?) leveraged the awesome power of social media last week to promote their brand. Except that they used a convicted hate crime murderer, and they seemed pretty chuffed about it.
Oh dear. It’s so easy to forget just how quickly time flies when one discovers that Victoria Bekham, the former Spice Girl known as ‘Posh Spice’ recently celebrated her 40th birthday at the Arts Club in Mayfair. Victoria doesn’t seem to phased by her near ancient age however. In fact this horrifyingly-hot-considering-birthing-four-kids former pop-star decided […]
Pinot Noir – two words you’ve been hearing a lot, lately. The delicate grape has enjoyed some serious attention recently, and with the likes of Ard Matthews spouting these sorts of statements wherever he goes, we’re hardly surprised: “I’m convinced that Pinot Noir is one part heat-sensitive grape and 99 parts angel blood. It is the perfect blend between rosé and red, which means it can and must be drunk as often as possible, where possible, if possible.”
The South Korean Coast Guard released footage of captain Lee Joon-seok fleeing the passenger ferry Sewol as it sank in coastal waters off Jindo Island on 16 April. In the video Lee, wearing only a sweater and underpants, can be seen leaping from the sinking ferry, which is tilted about 45 degrees, onto a rescue boat alone.
