You know the racial tension situation in the US is bad when even the mayor of New York has to have a little chat to his son, who happens to be black, about how to act around a police officer so that he is not killed.

Mayor Bill de Blasio, who is white, married Chirlane McCray, who is black, back in 1994, and they have two children together, Dante and Chiara.

Speaking just blocks away from where Eric Garner was killed in a chokehold, the mayor shared a “crushing personal anecdote” about his family and his son.

We’ve had to literally train him – as families have all over this city for decades – how to take special care in any encounter he has with the police officers who are there to protect him… So I’ve had to worry over the years. Chirlane’s had to worry. Is Dante safe each night?

Not cool that he had to have this chat over the “birds and the bees” chat.
