Thanksgiving: the scariest day of the year for turkeys all over the United States of America. They are plucked, stuffed, roasted and paired with a revolting casserole consisting of mashed sweet potatoes or yams covered with marshmallow. I kid you not.
But, in a happy twist of fate, two turkeys have been given the presidential pardon by Obama.
Today, I’m taking an action fully within my legal authority — the same kind of action taken by Democrats and Republican presidents before me — to spare the lives of two turkeys, Mac and Cheese, from a terrible and delicious fate.
The tradition, which started in 1947, consisted of the president being given a turkey just before Thanksgiving. Since 1983 the turkey has been given a presidential pardon, sparing it from being eaten.
Mac and Cheese were this years recipients, and they will be spending the rest of their lives at Morven Park’s Turkey Hill, a 10,000-acre farm in Virginia.
My god but it’s nice to have some lighthearted news for a change.
Happy Thanksgiving, er’body!
