Well that’s not fair, is it? They can eat and eat and eat as many pizzas and donuts as they want and then just have it all surgically removed? Hmmph.
No, no, not quite. It’s hardly liposuction, but rather bariatric surgery, which actually alters the body’s digestive system, resulting in weight loss.
And, according to NICE, if the NHS starts offering the surgery, they will end up saving money. Whilst the op would cost about £6,000, the NHS would make back the money by not having to dish out expensive diabetic medications.
How to qualify?
Anybody with a body mass index of 30 or more who has recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and has tried a compulsory weight-loss program, would be eligible under the new guidance.
Type 2 diabetes is a huge problem in the UK. It’s main cause is bad lifestyle (eating sugars and not exercising) and the NHS sees over 100 limb amputations a week because of it.
Imagine if we had something like the NHS. Haha, in our dreams.
