This is rather scary.
A website in Russia has been “streaming images from webcams around the world”.
That baby monitor in your kid’s room? Yeah, they’ve been watching…
The website gains access to the cameras by using the default logins and passwords for the web cameras, and can stream anything from offices, living rooms and nurseries, to a gym in the UK, to the site.
The Information Commissioner, Christopher Graham, has “implored Russian authorities to remove the site”.
The website operators shouldn’t be doing it. If it was in the UK they would be breaching the Data Protection Act and the Consumer Misuse Act
The Russian website’s administrator has spoken to Sky News, saying that “its purpose was to highlight poor security”.
Right, you have done your job guys. Now, everyone go change your passwords.
