Competition between friends is healthy. It keeps you up to date and in the know, and should serve you both well. It can escalate out of control though, and turn into an actual competition, where there is a winner, and, sadly, a loser. This, quite obviously, can lead to the death of a lifelong friendship.
Which is exactly what has happened between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. The two have been friends since they were 12, and now their love for Formula One has caused a rift.
The Mercedes-AMG teammates are almost at war with one another, and this is why the last race of the season in Abu Dhabi will be worth watching.
With claims from Hamilton that Rosberg purposefully crashed into him during the Belgian Grand Prix in August, the next race looks set to be a real feast of entertainment.
Either way, it served as a breaking point for the two. Even Mercedes-AMG team boss Toto Wolff noted the incident as the end of amicability between the two.
Lewis Hamilton will go into the race with a 17-point advantage over his teammate Nico Rosberg. This means that for Nico to win the Formula One world championship title, he would have to come in first place in Abu Dhabi, with Lewis coming in 7th or lower. Also, if Lewis scores no points in the race, and Nico comes in second place, Nico will win. The two have been neck and neck this season.
UPDATE: “There are double points on offer in the final race, thus, if Nico wins, then Lewis will have to come in 2nd to avoid losing his lead. A 3rd place will leave Nico with a 3 point victory in the championship.” Thanks Anon1234567 (comment section)
