Rumour has it Oscar Pistorius won’t get an early release because he “can’t take part in their tagging scheme because the device cannot be properly monitored if it is fixed to a prosthetic leg”. Because he can just take his leg off. The Daily Mail also said that “the tags cannot by law be fixed to an offender’s wrists as they are too easily removed”.
The department of correctional services in South Africa has denied this, though, and have said this:
“The electronic monitoring device must be fitted to the ankle or wrist without causing a risk to the person’s health… electronic monitoring devices must be compact, un-obstructive and allow persons under community corrections as far as possible to carry out their normal daily activities.”
There is no word from the prison where Oscar is or anyone at correctional services saying that he will even be released in ten months.
Let’s all just calm down and wait for 1) the NPA’s appeal on December 9th, and 2) when ten months is up.
I am sure that technology is advanced enough that they could organise that the electronic tagging device doesn’t need to fit onto an ankle? And even if it’s a bit big and klunky on his wrist, so is this rad Panerai watch, no doubt a look that OP goes for.
