“Malemaville” was almost created on Monday (obviously they were short on adjectives and nouns to create a good name).
Planned by EFF branch chairman Vusi Msiza, a piece of land alongside the N4 highway was to be given to the local people of the area in a land invasion.
It ended in blood, tears and broken bones, though, as the Tshwane metro police had to fire rubber bullets to disperse the crowd, which was at least 3 000 strong.
The EFF’s explanation of the land grab?
“People have nowhere to stay but there is plenty of empty land. We are implementing the EFF policy of expropriation of land and we will fight to stay on that land.”
ANC spokesman Dumisa Ntuli replied with the following:
“The people must not be deceived and raise expectations that the land grab will bring hope into their lives… The land grab is not only wrong, but undermines the ANC government’s determined efforts to work towards improving the lives of ordinary people.”
The land has been earmarked for a low cost housing development. Ntuli went on to explain how the policies that the EFF wants to use have “impoverished and left many countries destitute in the world and therefore cannot be copied in South Africa”.
At least someone is on the lookout… (well, the EFF is challenging the ANC to wake up and do things faster, and the ANC is making sure that South Africa doesn’t end up like the rest of the continent.)
