Even though Uber has been met with a bit of unhappiness from the taxi industry, it has to be said that Uber has absolutely nailed what they do. The San Franscisco born company is already one of the world’s most highly valued startups, having only begun in 2009 (it took a while to get to us in Saffa land).
Now, Uber is planning a new round of funding, telling investors that they should be getting another $2 billion. Should this come through, the company will be valued at a whopping $30billion. Yes, they’re doing okay.
To put this into perspective, Twitter is valued at about $25billion.
I love Uber. Really, I’m not even surprised they are valued at so much. It’s changed my life – the fact that I will never again have to get into a dodgy cab with no brake pads makes me want to explode with happiness (and they found my Ray Bans in Joburg and got them back to me in Cape Town). Remember you can get R150 off your first ride if you use the 2ov Uber code, get it HERE.
