In celebration of the 25th year anniversary for the fall of the Berlin Wall, some 8000 white illuminated balloons were released on the route of the old wall.
It is said that more than 1 million people visited the city of Berlin, according to Time.com.
The display recalled the night of November 9, 1989, when thousands of Germans reunited with their families for the first time in almost 30 years after the building of the Berlin Wall in 1961.
The 3 day celebration was not just for the fall of wall, but according to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, to “honor the memory of the 138 people who died along the Berlin Wall in its 28-year existence.”
Merkel also had some words of wisdom a lot of Western Leaders can follow: “It was about reclaiming freedom, about being citizens, not subjects,” – “The fall of the wall has shown us that dreams can come true,” – “Nothing has to stay the way it is, however big the hurdles are.”
