When you think of whiskey producers, Japan isn’t the first country that comes to mind, but the Asian country has now just topped the list with its Yamazaki Single Malt Sherry Cask 2013 for the best whisky in the world.
The list, which is compiled by whisky expert Jim Murray, put the Japanese brand above other world-renowned whiskies, saying the Yamazaki has “near indescribable genius”, with a “nose of exquisite boldness” and a finish of “light, teasing spice”, giving it an impressive 97.5 marks out of 100.
Not a single Scotch managed to make the final five shortlist.
While the Yamazaki gets the seal of approval from Mr. Murray, we’re going to stick with good ole Jack Daniel’s going forward – the Yanks know what’s cooking with the whisky vibe.
