The alluring option of heading out into the Cape winelands to wet your whistle with some of your country’s best bottled beauties is always an attractive option on the weekend, but let’s be honest, sometimes you wish you could do something a little closer to home, but still get the same experience.
Well, the Swartland Wine Region has decided to bring the wine-tasting extravaganza INTO Cape Town, so you can enjoy the glorious white wines without even leaving the sanctuary of the city.
The special Chenin Blanc Day, which will be held on Saturday, 15 November, will take place on the lawns of the old Cape manor house, Welgemeend (off Kloof Street), in the heart of the city. Inside the manor house two rooms will be used for more formal wine tastings.
The celebration of this popular and versatile white wine will take the shape of a gastronomic picnic buffet lunch between 10am and 4pm with wine stalls and roaming musicians.
So that you can know what you’re rambling on about while sipping the glorious wines, the programme for the day includes Swartland Chenin Uncorked (an informal talk about the various styles and the versatility of Chenin Blanc), a wine and chocolate tasting and a wine and olive tasting.
The 2014 Standard Bank Top 10 Chenin Blancs will also be available for tasting. The Swartland Chenin Blanc Day will be a gastronomic and stylish affair. A limited number of Celebration Passes are available at R160 per person, which includes a wine tasting glass, a picnic lunch and tasting coupons. Although tickets will be on sale at the entrance, people are advised to book in advance to avoid disappointment.
Furthermore Kloovenburg will be hosting their annual Christmas Market on Saturday, 13 December 2014. Those looking for Christmas presents need look no further than Kloovenburg’s delicious olive products, wines, skin care range, etc.
