Cycling Lanes Are Glow-In-The-Dark In The Netherlands

Dutch designers have managed to install glow-in-the-dark road markings in a stretch of a main highway in the Netherlands.

Ahh the Dutch – never are they behind with any first-world innovation. Their latest contribution to society includes glow-in-the-dark cycling lanes, so you know where exactly you’ll see too much man-package.

The disco-like lanes, which are created using photo-luminescent paint, have now also been pitched to the UK.

“The three lines merge into one and you feel that it guides you. With fog, you see them more than with standard light,”  said artist Daan Roosegaarde, one of the road markings’ designers.

“For a small country like the Netherlands, we have to be creative – that is how we will survive. I won’t say what the UK should and shouldn’t do but I can see similarities. You cherish your heritage but you want to make it contemporary too.”
