Some people may claim that their mansions are “like a palace”, but Douw Steyn can legitimately claim it.
The founder of Auto & General and CompareTheMarket.com has a modest R250 million home between Joburg and Pretoria that will leave your jaw on the floor.
Humbly named “Palazzo Steyn”, the massive 3 000 m² property features seven bedrooms suites, a wine cellar, and an underground marble-floored garage with room for 33 cars, a large swimming pool, two fire pools, and extensive walled gardens laid to lawn at the house. But most importantly, it’s surrounded by a ruined aqueduct which creates two waterfalls at the back of the house.
Not settling for his underwhelming home, Steyn hopes that his house becomes the centre of what he plans on becoming Steyn City (a real unique name), which is set to be a luxury country ‘lifestyle estate’.
While Steyn’s pad may have been the most expensive to build, it’s not the most expensive on the market. The Enigma Mansion, which is available at R300 million, is a different ball game altogether!
