Another celebrity with a secret problem. Sigh. This time we’re reminding you of our favourite father from our childhoods, Bill Cosby. Do you remember sitting watching The Cosby Show with mum and dad on a Monday night? It was like a ritual. Which has now been somewhat tarnished.
Back in 2006, 32-year-old Andrea Constand, claimed that “Cosby had drugged and sexually assaulted her in his Philadelphia mansion in 2004”. Another 13 witnesses then came forward, saying the same thing: Bill Cosby had also sexually assaulted them. The case was later settled.
Then, last week, comedian Hannibal Buress brought everything up again and had go at Cosby.
“It’s even worse because Bill Cosby has the f—ing smuggest old black man public persona that I hate. He gets on TV, ‘Pull your pants up black people, I was on TV in the ‘80s. I can talk down to you because I had a successful sitcom.’ Yeah, but you rape women, Bill Cosby, so turn the crazy down a couple notches. ‘I don’t curse onstage.’ Well, yeah, you’re rapist, so I’ll take you saying lots of motherf—ers.”
Wow. Clearly not a fan.
But let’s be honest. Who even remembers the allegations from 2008? I don’t. Bill Cosby continued to be another TV funny man for me and millions of others. And I think that is the point Buress was trying to make.
