Judge Thokozile Masipa has made her decision.
After an incredibly long 20 months since Oscar killed Reeva Steenkamp, with one of the most watched court trials that I can remember, the sentence has been given.
Oscar Pistorius will be spending the next five years in prison.
Oscar will also get another three years for the Tasha’s incident, which are suspended, on condition that whilst suspended, he is not found guilty of another crime where there is negligence involving a firearm.
The two sentences will run concurrently.
So that’s just five years in prison.
But, after serving the minimum of ten months (1/6 of the sentence), correctional services can reevaluate, resulting in Oscar spending the remaining time under house arrest, for example.
