Bono has, quite possibly, never ever ever ever been seen without sunglasses perched on his nose. Whilst us mere mortals could put it down to him being a rockstar and creating a persona, the reason behind the permanent sunnies is far more severe.
Bono has glaucoma, and he has had it for two decades.
I have good treatments and I’m going to be fine. You’re not going to get this out of your head now. You’re going to be saying, ‘Ah, poor old blind Bono’.
The U2 singer revealed his secret on the Graham Norton show last week, saying that he has never told the world as he didn’t want a pity party.
Glaucoma has made Bono’s eyes sensitive, so he uses the shades to protect his eyes from bright camera flashes and light, which otherwise would make his right eye swell up.
Poor guy.
When interviewed by Rolling Stone in 2005, Bono said about his sunglass habit that it was “part vanity… part privacy and part sensitivity”.
Do you insist on wearing your shades whilst walking the aisles of Woolies? Then I suggest you pop to Sunglass Hut to get all the latest and greatest shades.
