The racy 1972 porn film, Deep Throat, become somewhat of a pop culture phenomenon upon its controversial release. The film’s pornographer, Anthony Battista, has gone on to earn quite the reputation in the industry, and his daughter, who was 4 when it was released, has now given a revealing interview with VICE.
The interview was sparked by Battista’s daughter, Kristin Battista-Frazee, recently releasing her new book titled The Pornographer’s Daughter.
Here’s some portions of the full interview:
VICE: When did you first watch Deep Throat?
Kristin Battista-Frazee: I watched it for the first time last year. I thought I probably needed to if I was going to write about it. I’m glad I waited, because now it doesn’t seem like a big deal. But I also understand why it was so popular—Linda Lovelace had this incredible skill and that skill was realized. At the time, and as outlined in her memoir, Ordeal, Linda claimed that Deep Throat shows her being raped.
I have talked to my father, and he didn’t believe she was forced.Did your friends know that your father was this huge pornographer?
I was pretty discreet about it—I mean, I went to a Catholic school. I told my best friend Kelly and she was like, “Really? But he looks like an accountant.” I guess he did.Deep Throat arguably reshaped the sexual landscape for pornography. Are you proud of your father?
I feel proud that he fought against forces for what he believed in. There will always be a vocal minority against porn, but that’s life.
